Funeral and Memorial
Services

We honor the beginning of life and yet turn away when the ending approaches. I believe it is in the end when we have the most to celebrate, having grown to love and know each other.

Funerals and memorials are important, and they deserve to be documented.

They aren't all about sadness. They are about love and sharing stories. Realizing that this person you've known and loved had all kinds of other facets you didn't know about, and learning that from others brings a whole new kind of love into the picture. Seeing how your dear one influenced other people and will be carried forward in their actions.

That's good stuff. It should be witnessed.

And because it's such a hard time in your life, it's difficult to be aware of everything that happens during a service. Having a photographer around will give you another opportunity to experience the event and what it meant to other people, as well as be able to share it.

Your person matters. Your feelings matter. It's going to take time to process all of this.

One of the things I appreciate most about photography is the time it offers. A photograph allows as much time as I need to take in a moment.

That's especially important at times like this. While it may be months before you feel like you can look at the photographs (and that's normal), once you have them, you'll be able to be with your emotions in the way and the timeframe that work for you. You'll have one more tool for grieving as well as a conversation starter with the people who were there with you and the people who couldn't be.

And it may help to see how much love was around you because of your person. That's a big thing.
